ABSTRACT

The main aim of the study is to find out the effects of domestic violence on students academic performance in tertiary institutions. The case study was is selected tertiary institutions in Gboko town of Benue State. The study is divided into five chapters. Chapter one entails the background of the study which has grounded out the negative effects of domestic violence generally in our society as a summary. The statement of the problem clearly states the research gap that is how domestic violence is negatively affecting students' academic performance in tertiary institutions, well defined purpose of the study, research questions, delimitation and limitations of the study. Chapter two entails literature review which focuses on  important findings briefly described from previous research studies. Chapter three presents the methodology used by the researcher which entails; research design, population of the study, sampling techniques, research instruments, reliability and validity of the instruments.

The researcher  adopts a simple random sampling technique that is both qualitative and quantitative because the tools used are both numeric and non numeric where a sample of Fifty students and Fifty lecturers are drawn from three major tertiary institutions in Gboko town and the entire Local Government area as a larger population. The researcher uses interview and questionnaires as basic instrument for data collection with analysis in statistical tables and percentages. Findings showed a significant relationship between domestic violence and students academic performance  in tertiary institutions in Gboko town of Benue state.
